This is a question which many of the webmasters think and try all the tips and tricks to get their site indexed by Google.

I have a few tips which I would like to share with you all. These tips are not discovered by me, but I have tried it and I have got good results. I have been working on web development and programming for some time and have tried these on my websites. I don’t claim that these are my own tips but its from my experience and I have read a lot from different search engine expert blogs and websites.

1. Patience - Don’t expect your site to be Indexed by Google overnight, it may take weeks or even months. You need to do the basic things like submitting your site to Google, verify your site, submit sitemap etc.

2. Content - You should write content for viewers rather than search engines. Do stick to your topic, post good content, not just few lines. You should write your content in a way that if a visitor views it, he or she should either bookmark it or even suggest your page or website to his or her friend. You should use good language, spell check, etc. Do not dump your content with just keywords. Key words are very important but do not use unnecessarily. Google has experts to check all these and they may even penalize you for this. Always be sincere to your visitor while writing the content. Do not use duplicate contents, like just making different pages with same contents. Do not use any hidden text to fool the bot like adding few text which are not relevant to the document to just try to get it on the SERPs. That won’t help you much, but Google may penalize you for this kind of deeds.

3. Images - Search engines can’t read whats written on the images, try to use less images, you should use alt tag for images and give a small description for the image. Don’t just dump some key words. Also take care that you use good images, which are easy to load and the visitor don’t need to wait much to see the image. Optimize it for the web before you upload the image.

4. Meta Tags - Use meta tags properly. Experts say that meta tag description and keywords are not much important as far as Google is concerned. You should write the correct description for each page, don’t write a whole story or just added description which is not relevant to that page. Even in the case of keywords, just add a few keywords which can be used to search by a visitor to find a document that you are posting. Other keyword “title” is very important. Your title should be very much relevant to the document and should have some keyword that is matching the content. I have seen that this helps a lot.

5. Outbound Links - Its good to add links to other websites as well as to other pages which are related to the content that you are posting.

6. Inbound Links - If you get links from other websites to your page, that will improve your chance of getting indexed very soon. Google sees that this page is important as a website has added a link to this page which gives a better rank to your page, which is called pagerank. Pagerank plays a very important role in SERPs.

7. Search Engine Friendly URL - This is very important, links which show that the page is dynamically created have some negative marks in indexing. Always use some tools which generate SEF URL. Avoid links like http://me.googling.in/index.php?id=123&page=84&mode=easy_mode&view=4. These are not search engine friendly URL’s. More parameters and values are a negative mark for indexing. Always use SEF Url’s, Very Important.

8. Update - Update your site regularly, add new content and keep your website fresh.

9. Errors - You should take care that you don’t have any errors on any pages or links. Avoid errors like 404. You should be carefull while using java scripts and make sure that there are no errors in your web programming.

10. Wait and Watch - Keep a watch on your server, check how often bots are crawling your websites, what are the keywords that are generating traffic to your websites, you will be able to write your experience what I have missed.
