The recent pagerank update has shown fall in many high PR websites. There is no official information in this regard. There was a manual update of PR going on for the past one month and many top bloggers like Daren had faced fall in PR. Many webmasters has responded to this fall and guessed many reasons. I was going through many blog posts related to the pagerank fall and the latest posts related to the Google Pagerank Update

Some reasons that I would like to highlight 

Link Trade:

Many webmasters or blog owners who lost some credits in this update have accepted that they were into Link Trade, Selling text link ads openly on their websites. This could be one of the reasons as the majority had this on their websites. Many have bothered to remove it and many say, they don’t care about pagerank and Google. The webmasters need some revenue and they just cannot depend on Google Adsense as we are not sure when the account will be banned. More over Google cannot rule the world wide web. Why should web masters fear about pagerank and Google. Reasons are there to fear, yes, you are right, even my 80% traffic is from Google. When they can give us so much of visitors and visitors give us revenue. Advertisers will not buy space if you do not have visitors. Pagerank is one of the factors deciding the price of the links. Google is the King in this regard.

Change in Google Algorithm:

The other chance could be that Google has made some changes in the Algorithm and the new algorithm might be the reason in fall in PR. There are chances that the value of backlinks are changed or the they have fixed life for backlinks. Even  there are chances that Google has fixed life for pages as we see Google lists fresh pages on SERPs . We do not have any official information, all these are could be’s.

Change in URL’s:

Recently I had changed the SEO type URL’s to a shorter ones. All my page’s URL’s were changed and I have seen a fall in my pagerank

Change In Template:

I changed the template of my website.  When the template changes, there are chances that Google may think these are new pages and ranking may be effected.

I am not really bothered about pagerank or my traffic from search engines even though I get good visitors from Google and other search engines. I have never got involved in buidling links or selling links. I am even not allowed to use Google Adsense and I do not have any banners or text links on my blog. Google does not say that you should not link to other websites, but do not put ads which are not related to your site. We see many links from sites which are related to Banking to sites selling books or jewels. Google does not want anybody to play with their algorithm and change the whole purpose. Page rank is something calculated by looking into the backlinks which comes naturally and not by trading. Any body trying to play or change the cause may be effected.
