Google Pagerank Update is on
April 30, 2008
I saw some threads on Google pagerank update, but could not find any change on any of my websites. I found a thread on DP on this. Its sure that the pagerank update is on. I used the pagerank checking tool for checking my websites and my money making blog just 2 months old has got PR 2 from PR 0, that’s good and I have seen some changes in the search engine ranking for this blog.
Other important thing I have noticed this Johnchow who had lost his PR in the last update has gone from PR 3 to PR 4, I don’t think he has stopped paid links or paid reviews.
Paid Links, Google has no problem
April 5, 2008
We have seen many blogs and websites losing their pageranks for selling links on their websites. Why does Google does this? Google’s pagerank algorithm is related to the number of backlinks to that particular page and Pagerank has some influence on SERP’s. To keep the quality and reliability of Google search results, Google needs to keep a check on this. Many webmasters buy links from Websites having high Pagerank and enhance their Pagerank.
How can we sell links without effecting our pagerank.
Google has very clearly mentioned that they do not have any problem with anybody selling links, but to avoid the Pagerank Juice, you need to either use rel=nofollow tag or redirect the links to a page which is blocked from search engine using robot.txt file
But when we use this, its very difficult to sell links as new site webmasters want to buy links from SEO purpose rather than traffic or sales.
PR Fall - Youtube, Google’s Company down
March 4, 2008
Youtube.com, Google’s Own video sharing website effected by Fall in Pagerank (PR)

Don’t know if its a mistake or bug, may be it will be changed, but what about others??
Google Pagerank Update - Confirmed Feb 2008
February 29, 2008
I can confirm that Google has updated the pagerank on the Google Toolbar. Again this time, sites selling links and paid reviews are penalized. I see Johnchow.Com again falling from PR4 to PR3. In the previous update, he was penalized from PR6 to PR4. I have not got much information about other sites right now. I will keep this post updated. I have some of my blogs PR going up and some going down. I think the update was a slow process this time. The fluctuation in PR was there for the last one week as I had done in my earlier post. I have do not have any changes on the main page of this blog, but I have got some sub pages PR growth. Will this PR update effect top bloggers. Problogger has PR6 when I checked last and its the same.
Johnchow.Com again penalised PR 4 to PR 3
February 26, 2008
Again this recent pagerank update, Johnchow.Com is penalised by Google. This confirms that Google is still behind paid links and paid reviews. JohnChow is a very high earning blogger and has heavy visitors and traffic. His strongest gain is the number of subscribers (I see a fall in the number of subscribers too now it shows 16665) and regular visitors. He should not be much effected with this pagerank update. Last PR update should have given him a lot of traffic not from Google by different discussion forums and blogs as his site was hot topic for discussion.
Pagerank Importance for SERPs
December 1, 2007
The latest pagerank update is over and many webmasters have got positive results and many are disappointed.
I would like to discuss on some questions which usually come into our mind when we talk about pagerank.
What is SERPs?
SERPs is Search Engine Result Pages, which means when you do a search on a search engine, the search engine displays the results of your search on the result page.
To get on the top of the SERPs, you really do not need to have high pagerank, but need to write good content with information. Present it a good way, use words that a visitor may use to search for a page that you are writing. Do not try to overuse or flood your post unnecessarily with key words.
Just have a look at the picture on the right. I posted a page related to reasons for fall in pagerank and it was indexed by Google in just 2 hours time and when I searched for the reasons for fall in pagerank, my page was no. 1 in Google search results (Main Search (Google.com). Mattcutts had mentioned about quick and fresh results from Google in his post. I do not have a high pagerank, then how could this happen. I had a very large number of page hits from Google for this key phrase. Its very clear that pagerank is not really a major factor for getting on top for good keywords.
Now let me explain the other part. This ranking will very soon taken by pages with higher pagerank, yes thats the advantage of having higher pagerank. If my web site has higher pagerank, the period of staying in top position is high. Pages with lower pageranks go down very soon. I do not know, when you check Google for the above, you may not find my page on top, thats the
Why do we go behind the pagerank factor?
I would like to highlight some of the advantages and gains of having pages with good pagerank.
- We can proudly say our pagerank is high, Google has importance of the page.
- Can get good advertisers
- Sell links
- You get more backlinks as other sites with lower pagerank will be interested in linking to your site
- More crawling from Google
- More visitors as the result of more back links
What would be a good pagerank?
Yes thats a question which is debatable.
I feel something like PR 4 is good. To reach a site with a pagerank like 4, you need to wait if you are depending on natural back links or you will have to trade links which is very dangerous, (Latest PR update has already proved it, still some have escaped). I am sure still the link trade will be on in some or the other way. Google needs to check on this to maintain the purpose of Google PR algorithm, which is purely on back links. My worry is that some innocent websites will also be effected in this filtering.
What pagerank cannot do?
If you have web page with high PR and do not have good contents, you will never be able to gain good ranking on any key phrase or keywords. You will not be able to grow your backlink as there will be no reason to link to your site.
Getting on top of the SERPs
- Forget about pagerank
- Provide, unique, interesting information to your readers
- Keep your website updated
- Write clean and good content for the visitors and not for search engines
- SEO is a factor which you need to keep in mind like
- SEF URL’s
- Proper use of keywords
- Most important is the TITLE of the page
- Forget about dumping keywords and using the meta keywords tag
- Never try to spam the page with keywords or try to fool the search engine with hidden text
- Do not copy contents from other sites and do posts (Duplicate Content is a big problem, you will be put in supplementary indexing)
- Use proper Robot.txt to avoid googlebots to crawl a single page with different URL’s
- Ping Google
If you are looking to increase your pagerank for the sake of getting traffic, then its a wrong concept. You need to just follow the about tips. These tips are from my experience and I have done well using these. I have never tried to get any backlinks or increase my PR. Pagerank is something which we need to wait for long time as natural backlinks cannot be created overnight. Google is aware of this and if you suceed in getting 500 backlinks in a month or two, you will surely be flagged and screened for spamming. Backlinks coming from sites which has some relation to your sites are important

Update
Its just 2 hours from now I did the above post. I searched for google using the key phrase pagerank importance serps and you can see the result on the right side.
How did I do this?
- I do not have any backlinks to this page.
- The PR is not yet assigned to this page
- I do not have any hidden text
- What I did is a clean post, and informed Google about this post. This makes very clear that Google indexes pages as soon as its pinged. Google shows fresh results and fresh pages can go to the top. So you do not need to worry about pageranks or backlinks. Do quality posts and just let Google work its own way.
Fall in Pagerank - Reasons
November 1, 2007
The recent pagerank update has shown fall in many high PR websites. There is no official information in this regard. There was a manual update of PR going on for the past one month and many top bloggers like Daren had faced fall in PR. Many webmasters has responded to this fall and guessed many reasons. I was going through many blog posts related to the pagerank fall and the latest posts related to the Google Pagerank Update
Some reasons that I would like to highlight
Pagerank Update is On - October 2007
October 27, 2007
Finally the much awaited and debated pagerank update is on. Many of the sites that I watch has lost 1-2 in PR. I checked for some searches, but could not note any change in SERPs, may be it may take some time.
Google Pagerank Manual Update is On
October 27, 2007
Google is punishing websites with Artificial links or paid links. Many websites with high PR has seen drop in their PR.
I found this article very interesting and informative
Google Purges The Payola - Forbes.com
Googlers like to think of their company as the Web’s library. But as Web sites come up with more ways to wring profit from online advertising and sales–often using methods that Google opposes–a better analogy might be the Web’s watchdog. In recent months, that watchdog has barked at sites it accuses of shady practices–and it may be start
PR Drop? Will it really effect the high earning bloggers?
October 5, 2007
I was checking Johncow.com PR, but I found it to be PR0 and not PR5. I just went through his site and its very clearly stated that his PR is 0, but he is expecting it to be 5-6, may be got some good backlinks. The domain was registered only in Jul 2007
PageRank? Google you can keep your stupid number!
Yes, this time it´s for real, Google is finally updating the PageRank, but apparently to the downside. It all started with JohnChow.com when his PageRank fell from 6 to 5, but it has spread to other blogs, including CourtneyTuttle.com, NetBusinessBlog.com (where I have a Text Link Ad), and Sabahan.com (where I also purchased a “Earn 10k a month…” link).
