Dhiraagu is the first and top service provider in Maldives. Recently Dhiraagu launched the IDD019 service which is a International call service at cheaper rate. Still services like Skype and other VOIP services are cheaper. There are lots of expatriates living in Maldives who need to make International Phone calls. This service should be a boon to them as they may not have facility of Internet connection
Wataniya telecoms is the other service provider in Maldives. They do not have fixed line service.

Dhiraagu recently launched a new service through which users can make international calls at a cheaper rate. In this you need to dial 019 instead of 00 which is the prefix for making international calls. You can find more information about this on the Dhiraagu Website Press release

Dhiraagu has RELOAD facility now

I have been using post paid connection for the past 3 years, so recharging my mobile was not something what I was not interested. Dhiraagu, last month introduced the RELOAD feature. I had seen this feature last time when I went to India. You do not need to by recharge card for this, instead go to a retailer who is authorized to RELOAD and ask them to charge your phone with the amount that you need. The retailer will do it by sending an SMS with the information like your phone number and your phone gets the credit.
The difference I had seen with the Dhiraagu prepaid connection is that you get the full credit for the amount you recharge. In India I noticed that when you recharge for INR 1000, you get credit less than that, there are some taxes or whatever you call.

Dhiraagu is the biggest telecom service provider in the Maldives. The have a few retail outlets in Male’, the capital of Maldives. One of the outlet which is in Majeedhimagu, where they sell handsets, connections and even bill payments. On 11th Feb, 2008 there was a robbery at this shop.
International MMS from Dhiraagu, Maldives

Dhiraagu the biggest telecoms company in the Republic of Maldives has launched International MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) and its the only service provider right now to introduce this service. Local MMS was launched long back along with GPRS.
I received a SMS from Dhiraagu today afternoon and I came to know about this service. You will get charged MRF 5 per International MMS. You can send Video, Photo’s to any of your friends abroad.

Mr. Ismail Rasheed is the new CEO of Dhiraagu Maldives. He will be taking charge on 1st April 2007. The current CEO Mr Ismail Waheed who has completed 5 years will be moving to Cable & Wireless International where he will be overseeing the operations of both Dhiraagu and Seychelles businesses.
